PRIVACY

Privacy and cookies

A plain account of what this site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

AfriCap is a publication, not a service you sign into. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell personal data to anyone. What follows is the detail behind that, written to be read rather than to be technically survivable.

What we collect when you read

When you open a page we record basic, aggregated analytics so we can tell which articles are useful. That covers which page was viewed, roughly where in the world the request came from at country level, which site referred you, and general device type. It is used in aggregate to decide what to write next, and it is not used to identify you.

Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, as essentially every website does. Those exist for security and for diagnosing faults, and they are not used for marketing.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This site uses them in two ways.

  • Cookies that make the site work, for example remembering a preference you set. These cannot be switched off without breaking the page, and they carry nothing about you beyond that preference.
  • Cookies set by our advertising provider, described in the advertising section below. These are the ones most people mean when they ask about cookies.

Every browser lets you see, block, and delete cookies, usually under privacy or site settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here.

Advertising

Where advertising is shown on this site it is served by a third-party advertising provider rather than by us. That provider, and the partners it works with, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and in some cases to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.

We do not receive your personal data from that provider, and we do not choose which advertisers you see. You can usually control personalised advertising through your own account settings with the ad provider, and through the advertising or privacy controls in your browser and operating system.

If you write to us

If you send a message through the contact form we receive your name, your email address, and what you wrote. We use those only to read and answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not pass your message on.

You can ask us to delete a message you sent at any time by writing to support@acyera.com, and we will do it. We keep correspondence only for as long as it is useful for handling the matter it was about, and analytics data only in aggregated form.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time, including the advertising ones.
  • You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to delete it, by writing to the address above.
  • You can read the whole site without giving us anything beyond the basic analytics described here.

This site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone we know to be a child.

Changes to this note

If how we handle data changes, we update this page rather than announcing it elsewhere, so this is always the current position. If anything here is unclear, or you want something explained further, write to support@acyera.com and we will answer.
